Here is the sucky thing about starting or running a business: it takes time. You probably know that is no secret. Sometimes it takes time to actually make money, to get all your systems in place and make sense of it all. And when you are investing this time into your business chances are there are people around you trying to bide for that time. Maybe that time that you are putting into your dream used to be time that went toward them. And they don’t get it. And you don’t know how to make more hours in a day. And it sometimes becomes a messy jumbled mess with feelings left hurt and you beating yourself up for not being super woman.

But here is what I can offer in this situation: Don’t give up. As cliche as that is there is so much truth in those 3 little words. Here is something else I want to give you because I have been in this very situation (and came through it with a better, shinier life with my family still in tact). Today I am giving you a permission slip. It has been signed. And now you can carry on with pursuing your dreams and making your business all that it can be.

The truth of the matter is that those around you may not understand what you are doing, what you are working for, and this is especially true if you are working on an online business. That “silly cyber fantasy” (I *might* have personal experience with this little phrase) probably doesn’t look like much to them because they don’t see the value in it. And that’s okay. But here’s the thing: You do your thing. Do your thing loud, happy, and unapologetically. Am I telling you to drop your family, get a divorce, cut all ties with any nay-sayers? No. Of course not. I am just saying that if you love your little dream, and you want to cultivate it into something bigger, by all means, do your thing.

I decided to start my business at the worst possible time as far as timing goes. I was raising three small kiddos, going back to school, going through a divorce, among other chaos, and I decided to launch PLC in the middle of the circus. I don’t think everyone around me thought it was a particularly smart move but I didn’t ask what they thought and, frankly, I didn’t care. Because I believed in myself, and I believed in what I was doing, even though I wasn’t sure exactly what that was yet. I am happy to say my silly cyber fantasy puts food on the table, a roof over our heads, and puts life into my soul. I truly feel alive when I am working on new projects, new ideas, and see my little business reach new heights.

So, please, if this is what you want (more days than not), and you are doing something that sets your soul afire, keep going. Don’t give up. They will understand in time. And if the whole thing blows up in your face, well, you will have learned a lot and you can start a new dream anytime. That’s okay, too. But the worst possible thing you can do for yourself is to stop because someone doesn’t understand, or quit because you don’t believe in yourself. Life is too short not to be doing something that you love. From one business owner to another, please take your permission slip and use it. Use it until the edges are tattered, there a rips in the creases and the words are faded beyond recognition.

Until next time,

kelli2
