  • Why Not You?

It’s a valid question. And some of us are afraid of the answer. We really deserve much more than we accept most of the time. Why do we hold back? What keeps us from running head on into that dream that we want? Why should someone else have success and not us? There are a lot of reasons of what holds us back but primarily it is our own selves who keep us from going for it.

I was talking to Melissa (my sister and co-owner of PLC) about this a few years back and, although I think it struck a chord with both of us, we kind of had a running joke after that conversation. When one of us would say ‘I kinda want to do this’ or ‘I think I might want that’, even if one of us were talking about going to the store to grab a Coke, the other one would come back with ‘why not you?’. But in all seriousness it made us think. It was one of those game changing things.  Why couldn’t we have those big dreams, or that killer body, or whatever awesome thing that kept bugging us in the back of our minds? Because we deserved it just as much as the next guy.

If we work hard, pursue it, make it happen, we have the right to make it ours.

When this whole ‘what about you?’ thing hit me, it changed things up for me. I decided to get really serious about my business. I deserved to grab hold of this dream job and make it all that I want it to be. And I did. So, whatever you are wanting in your life, why not you? What is holding you back? Let go of the junk, punch fear in the face, and make it happen!

I hope you decide to make the jump and get whatever it is you are wanting right now (unless it involves stalking or something illegal because I don’t think that is a good idea). But this is YOUR life, and this is YOUR time right now. Go get it! Why not you?

  • Two Videos to Make Your Day. Maybe Change Your Life.

    life-changing-videos

I am an inspiration junkie. I love it. I thrive off it. Give me a good story about how humanity is winning and I am a happy clam. Our time is precious, and I want to know that I have lived my life doing what I have loved, helping others around me, and loving each part of it even in the face of adversity.

I am a believer in following the dream. All the somewhat cheesy quotes like ‘don’t quit your daydream’ and ‘if you can dream it you can do it’ are food to my soul. Because I believe we aren’t born to just grow up and just have ordinary lives with just ordinary jobs. We should chase the thing that excites us and, as cliche as it sounds, I do believe your purpose lies in your passion.

So, today, I am sharing these two videos. Because honestly they rock my world. No matter how many times I have seen them. There is nothing like a good inspirational graduation speech, and even though I am well past my days of graduation – I am always in the mood for inspiration.

  • Fake it ’til You Make It!

Let me tell you a little story about fakin’ it…

Years ago, when I was just starting out and had virtually NO clients, I was asked to do a project (a big one) for a lady and although I was dying to take it on, I had NO idea how to even begin to get it done. I was scared, but I was exhilarated. And I couldn’t ignore the exhilarated part. So, being somewhat young, dumb, and fearless, I said yes. Holy Cannoli. I said yes! And then panic hit me because I had to figure out how to do everything I just promised this client. I wasn’t even used to the word client at that point – because I had done work for maybe one up until then.

So, I punched fear in the face, did a ton of research, spent every waking hour learning what I could, and I pulled it off. And it gave me a boost like no other. My new tiny little business got its first boost of confidence and the rest is history. So, our motto at PLC has always been ‘fake it to you make it’. Well, we also have the motto of ‘our kids don’t eat for free, so we don’t work for free’ but that’s another story.

Whatever is in front of you and is pulling at your soul – just go for it. Go for it and then do whatever you have to to get it done. Shake off the fear, and give yourself a chance to dance, and you will just figure it out as you go. Have a wonderful weekend! Oh, and if you haven’t signed up for K+M, get on it!
