  • Watercolor Confections

I received a package in the mail today and wanted to share it here because it’s fun, and, well, I need a break from the daily grind of working.

There’s nothing like a good ol’ fashioned distraction in the form of beautiful new watercolors. And this little set is simply sweet. This set it from Art Philosophy which I’ve never used before. I’m excited to test them out.

I was looking for a watercolor palette with skin tones and this set called Watercolor Confections: Complexion is just what I was needing. I’m not a professional watercolor-ist (is that a word?) but I have a decent size mix of watercolor shades and hues but my “skin” colors were lacking.

I usually paint on the weekends (it is my favorite form of mental health care). I also have more of an appreciation for “real” paint and “real” physical art since my day job requires me to spend a lot of time on creating digital art and playing with graphics in Photoshop.

I haven’t tried to paint a face with watercolors before but I recently purchased this adorable book Expressive Little Faces by Amarilys Henderson and I am hooked. I have only tried a few but I can see this quickly becoming a fun challenge that I get obsessed with and who knows the faces might end up in PLC Insiders. I have been spending my evenings going through this book and it’s so relaxing. It also brings out the kid in me who is as content as can be with new art supplies.

I really love the packaging within the Watercolor Confections set. And, clearly, with one of the pans being named Lemonade and the color is a pink shade, it’s a purchase that was just meant to be. I will be trying these out later this evening for sure. I’m already in love with the pigments from testing out the swatch card. There is also another set called Watercolor Confections: Vintage Pastel that I ordered. I couldn’t resist. • Creating Digital Journal Pages

I must admit I had quite a bit of fun creating some new art journal pages. Not only painting them in my art journal but then digitizing them and creating digital pages that I can print over and over. It really sparked my imagination.

Once I painted them and put them into the digital space, the fun was just beginning. From there I could give them out for free. I could even sell them in a fun bundle all packaged up. So many possibilities.

I decided to give them out for free. You can get them here. I also thought it might be fun to share my process below.

This video is from one of my art courses and shows my process of creating art journal pages.
